The city emblem was created by Genzo Oono, a professor at the Aichi University of Education, in October 1957.
It consists of stylized irises, which are famous from the Tales of Ise, with an added sense that Chiryu played an important role as a transit area from ancient times because of its characteristic as an accessible location.

The flower is famous from the Tales of Ise, as told by the poet Ariwara no Narihira at Mikawa Yatsuhashi.
This flower was chosen by the town’s citizens in August 1973.

The tree grows upright and has a sense of spirit as if to dominate other trees with its valiancy, thus symbolizing the development of Chiryu.
This tree was chosen by the town’s citizens in August 1973.
