National Important Intangible Folklore Cultural Assets
Bunraku (Joruri doll show performed by three people) is performed in various parts of Japan, but it is only at Chiryu that it is performed on floats.
It began during the Edo Period (according to “Naka-cho Festival Records” in 1747) and has a history of 250 years.
Currently, four floats from Yamamachi, Naka Shinmachi, Hommachi, and Takaramachi perform “Sanbasou,” “Keijo Awano Naruto,” “Yukenki of Tsubozaka Kannon,” “Shinrei Yaguchino Watashi,” and so on.

While traditions are preserved or handed down in each town, Chiryu City Ryuhoku High School has a Bunraku Club for training young successors and students learn the techniques of handling the dolls.
In addition, Gidayu singing schools for elementary and junior high school children are held every year.
