On Wednesday, July 13, children from Iceland who visited junior high schools were invited to a restaurant in the city to experience Japanese food.

It was their first time to try maccha. They were bewildered by the bitter taste. They also tried scooping off and tasting tofu.
The children also showed great interest in the restaurant’s building, which was reformed from an old private house. They said that wooden houses such as that building are unusual in Iceland.

There was a surprise. Accompanying adults became sushi chefs and welcomed the children by saying “welcome!” without letting the children know about it.

All of the children seem to have learned how to use chopsticks. They were excited by the conveyor-belt sushi that offers not only sushi but also fruits and juice.
How was the sushi?
