Reading water meters placed within your housing area is one way of measuring the amount of water that you have used. A meter inspector commissioned by the city reads the water meters once every 2 months (either even- or odd-numbered months) at the beginning of the month. You cannot set a date for meter inspections. The inspector will leave a Water consumption notice such as the one displayed here on the left in your mailbox.
Chiryu city is divided into two main blocks using the first four digits of your customer number (user number). Water maters are inspected in the even-numbered months in one block and in the odd-numbered months in the other.
We will send you a payment notice between the end of the meter-inspection month and the beginning of the next month. Due dates are set as below. For customers paying through account transfers, we will make withdrawals on the dates indicated in the table of payment dates (and substitute payment dates) below, so please check your account balance prior to the day of payment (if a payment is due on a bank holiday, the due date will be moved to the next business day. We will not make more than one withdrawal).

Inspecting water meters is important for calculating necessary charges for water and sewerage bills. Please do not place any objects such as cars on your meter box. Please also be sure not to chain any dogs around the meter box, and please make sure your mailbox will be ready for your inspection slip (Water consumption notice). Every meter inspector carries a piece of identification issued by city. We thank you for your cooperation in making the meter-reading process as smooth as possible.

Your water bill is the total amount of the Basic fees and the Meter fees plus consumption tax and the 5% local consumption tax. If you initiate a water service in the middle of a month, the method of calculation for basic fees will be adjusted (if you have used less than 15 days for that month, the basic fee will be half the price of a the regular monthly fee. If you have used 15 days or more, the basic fee will be the same price as the regular month fee).
